FedEx Kinko's Media Relations
As collegiate textbooks have become increasingly homogenized and expensive, professors across the country are turning instead to “course packs” – a collection of photocopied articles and other materials that specifically address the topics professors wish to cover. While the course packs offer tremendous customization, professors must first obtain permission to use the 10 to 50 articles typically found in a course pack. This can be incredibly time consuming, and incredibly expensive if a lawsuit results from a professor‘s failure to properly obtain this permission.
FedEx Kinko’s had a thriving business photocopying course packs for professors, and the company recognized that establishing a nationwide network for approvals to use materials from publishers would greatly benefit professors, publishers and FedEx Kinko’s. The company established a process to obtain rights to a vast collection of material, allowing professors to select articles from a pre- approved list and simply building the publisher royalties into the price of the course pack. Our experience includes working with media targeting college professors and publishers to create awareness and demand for FedEx Kinko’s course pack service.
