StorageTek Mergers & Acquisitions
StorageTek was a $2.2 billion provider of computer hardware and software storage solutions to large and medium-size businesses. Its stock performance had been impressive, but the company was achieving those results from cost-cutting and an aggressive stock buy-back program rather than top-line revenue growth. The company sought to position itself for an acquisition, which was successful when Sun Microsystems agreed to purchase it for $4.1 billion in cash.
Our experience includes directing the regional and national media relations strategy during the Sun acquisition, which targeted media, analysts and investors to help ensure approval of the agreement. Positioning certain StorageTek executives as thought-leaders responsible for the success that attracted Sun, we also were able to help make sure that StorageTek employees were placed in strategic roles with the new Sun storage division. This allowed StorageTek to protect its installed customer base by maintaining existing product roadmaps and ensure that its vision and values lasted well beyond the company’s dissolution.
